No doping

Iranian football is faced with one of its biggest doping scandals in recent years.

During the last few months players and staff from three different teams have been charged with banned substance involvement and face multiple bans and fines.

Pas FC of Hamedan was slammed hard with multiples fines after it was revealed that a number of players and members of the coaching and medical staff were involved in doping a scandal.

Iranian Football Federation’s anti-doping committee handed out six month bans to striker Saeed Daghighi and midfielder Faroogh Ekhtiarovic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The two had tested positive after a match against Rah-Ahan in April of this year.

Also banned are team translator Reza Chalangar, and medic Moradali Teimouri. The two men were charged with providing the banned substances for the players’ consumption and were banned for four years from any involvement in any Iranian sports.

Furthermore, the club was hit with a three point deduction and a 25,000 Swiss Franc fine. The point deduction is to take affect at the beginning of the new season.

In a separate case, midfielders Afshin Komaei-Asgari of Esteghlal of Ahvaz and Ali Molaei of Mes FC of Kerman, who had tested positive earlier this year and were banned from football for one and two years respectively, lost their appeal and are to serve the full term of their original sentence.

The embarrassing fact is that Pas is the team connected to the Police and its chairman etc are all police officers!

  2. Not any more Ehsan jAn. They sold the team to the state or city of Hamedan when it moved fromn Tehran. So Pas FC is no longer affiliated with the Police or whatever it was since its inception. Nonetheless this is embarassing.

As far as I read, Pas still has some connections with the security forces. For example it gets hold of players who are due for military service. Also its chairman is a “sardaar”, I think.

Actually you are right. It is confusing. They have just transferred the senior football team’s franchise but kept everything else (including the junior football set up) in the police.

Meanwhile, Peykan is going to Ghazvin. I think it would be tricky for the players to bend down and pick up the ball for throw ins ;-)
